JAMES E. DONAHUE

Mr. Donahue has specialized in trial work since 1962. He has a B.S. Degree in Economics and Business Administration from St. Mary's College, California (1953), and an L.L.B. Degree from the University of San Francisco School of Law in 1961.

Upon graduation from college, he spent two years with the U.S. Army Counter-Intelligence Corp in Japan. After a period with AAA as a claims manager and house counsel, he joined Douglas McDonald in Sacramento and later formed the litigation firm of McDonald and Donahue.

After 1975, Mr. Donahue founded the firm of Donahue and Callaham which has today become Donahue Bates Blakemore & Mackey.

He has conducted over 200 civil jury trials in litigation involving professional malpractice, products liability, construction, and automobile accidents and has been awarded an "AV" rating by Martindale-Hubbell.

Mr. Donahue is a diplomate of the American Board of Trial Advocates, a member of the State Bar of California and the Sacramento County Bar Association. He is an arbitrator for the Sacramento and Solano Superior Court and conducts settlement conferences as a judge pro tem for the Sacramento, Placer, and El Dorado Superior Courts. Arbitration and settlement conferences have numbered in the hundreds.

Mr. Donahue was presented with the American Board of Trial Advocates Civility Award in 2004 for demonstration of the highest degree of integrity, credibility and professionalism in the handling of civil litigation.

He is currently representing both plaintiffs and defendants in cases involving medical and dental malpractice, insurance coverage and bad faith, civil rights, and employment litigation; and has established a mediation and arbitration practice with an hourly fee of $250.

Mark A. Bates     MARK A. BATES

Mr. Bates completed his undergraduate studies at Northern Arizona University and received a B.A. in History in 1983. He received his Juris Doctorate Degree from the University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law in 1987. While attending McGeorge, he was a member of the Traynor Honor Society.

Mr. Bates was an associate for three years with the Los Angeles defense firm of Hagenbaugh & Murphy. He rejoined this firm in September, 1990 and became a partner January 1, 1995. Since that time, he has participated in more than 20 superior court jury trials.

Mr. Bates' emphasis is in civil litigation, handling the entire spectrum of general liability tort claims, including premises liability, wrongful termination, and low-impact motor vehicle accidents. He is a member of the State Bar of California, the American Bar Association, the Sacramento County Bar Association, Placer County Bar Association and is admitted to practice in the U.S. District Court (Eastern and Central Districts).

Mr. Blakemore completed his undergraduate studies at the University of California at Davis and received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science in 1981. To fulfill the requirements of that degree, he held a position as a legislative liaison for Protection & Advocacy, an oversight group focusing on federal and state guidelines for persons with developmental disabilities. He received his Juris Doctor Degree from the University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law in 1984.

Mr. Blakemore initially joined our firm in 1983 as a law clerk and then in 1985 as an associate. He became a partner in 1994. His practice includes all aspects of civil litigation (auto and general liability) as well as insurance coverage disputes and bad faith litigation. He is a member of the State Bar of California, the American Bar Association (Tort and Insurance Law Subsections), and the Sacramento and El Dorado County Bar Associations.

Mr. Blakemore is admitted to practice before all courts of the State of California, including the California Courts of Appeal and the California Supreme Court. His practice also includes the United States District Court (Eastern, Central and Northern Districts) and the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. He is a frequent lecturer on recent developments in civil litigation and insurance coverage and has several published opinions dealing with coverage issues. (American States Insurance Co. v. Canyon Creek (N.D. Cal. 1991) 786 F.Supp. 821; Alta v. Fremont Indemnity Co. (1994) 25 Cal.App.4th 455).

Stephen J. Mackey     STEPHEN J. MACKEY

Mr. Mackey earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration from the College of Administrative Science at The Ohio State University in 1982. He graduated with distinction from the University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law, and was admitted to the California State Bar in December 1987. While at McGeorge, Mr. Mackey was a staff member on the Pacific Law Journal and a member of the Traynor Honor Society. While attending McGeorge, he worked at the firm as a law clerk and joined the firm as an associate in 1987. Mr. Mackey became a partner January 1, 1995. He is a member of the State Bar of California. He has been awarded an "AV" rating by Martindale-Hubbell.

Mr. Mackey's practice emphasizes the defense of medical and legal malpractice claims and insurance "bad faith" litigation. He also has considerable appellate experience, having handled appeals resulting in published opinions in the California Supreme Court, the First, Third and Fifth District Courts of Appeal, and the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals.

Mr. Connolly attended law school at the University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law, where he was awarded his Juris Doctorate degree in May of 1988. In 1981, he received a Finance degree from California State University at Chico and in 1986 completed all but his thesis in the Masters of Business Administration Program at California State University at Sacramento.

Prior to completing law school, Mr. Connolly spent seven years handling litigation files as a claims representative at several national insurance companies ( Maryland Casualty Company, Industrial Indemnity, and Aetna Insurance Companies). This experience provided him with unique perspective into the needs of insurance companies and how he can best satisfy those requirements.

Mr. Connolly joined this firm in 1989 and has been a partner since 1996.

Mr. Connolly has participated in over 200 arbitrations and numerous Superior Court jury trials. His emphasis is civil litigation, trucking lliability and MAIT exposure cases, premises liability and construction litigation.

In his 18 years as a litigator, he has personally handled over 17 trials , along with hundreds of arbitrations and mediations. He is a member of the California Trucking Association (CTA) and his membership application to join the Trucking Industry Defense Association (TIDA) is pending.

Mr. Salazar completed his undergraduate studies at San Jose State University, receiving a B.A. in Advertising. He received his Juris Doctorate from Western State University College of Law in Fullerton in 1996.

For the first five years of his legal career, Mr. Salazar was an associate at civil defense firms in Southern California and the Bay Area, joining the Donahue Bates Blakemore & Mackey firm in November of 2000.

Mr. Salazar is experienced in handling civil tort and contract litigation, including construction litigation, premises liability, and low impact automobile accident as well as commercial litigation. He is a member of the State Bar of California, the American Bar Association, and the Sacramento County Bar Association. He is admitted to practice in all counties in the State of California and both the Northern and Eastern Districts of the U.S. District Court.

Mr. Lambert did his undergraduate work in Rhetoric and Political Science at the University of California at Davis, and obtained a Juris Doctorate Degree from the University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law in 1981. He was the 1981 recipient of the Emil Gumpert Award for Outstanding Trial Advocacy and also the recipient of the Capitol City Trial Lawyers' Association Award for Outstanding Trial Advocacy.

Mr. Lambert was a claims adjuster for the Inter-Insurance Bureau of the California State Automobile Association. He has specialized in insurance defense work including product liability litigation. His experience includes approximately 75 civil jury trials. He is a member of the Northern California Association of Defense Counsel, the State Bar of California, and the Sacramento County Bar Association. Mr. Lambert is an Associate of the American Board of Trial Advocates. He serves as an arbitrator on the Sacramento County Judicial Arbitration Panel and as a pro tem settlement conference judge for the Sacramento County Superior Court.

Mr. Erickson was admitted to the California State Bar in November 1979, after graduation from the University of the Pacific's McGeorge School of Law earlier that year where he was a member of the Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition Team and Honors Board. Prior to law school, he attended the University of California, Davis, where he earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in electrical engineering that he put to use with the IBM Corporation and the U.S. Army prior to attending law school.

Mr. Erickson presently handles all forms of person injury litigation, and has extensive experience with motor vehicle accident cases. In both superior and appellate courts, he has also handled product liability cases, insurance coverage issues, defective construction and other real property cases including landlord-tenant disputes, real estate broker negligence, employment cases, and various forms of business tort litigation, including numerous bench and jury trials. Mr. Erickson has also served as Vice-President and General Counsel to a Sacramento construction firm where he traveled internationally during contract negotiations with private and governmental entities. Mr. Erickson is a member of the Sacramento County Bar Association and is admitted to practice in the U.S. District Court, Eastern District of California.

Jennifer Hammond-Carroll     JENNIFER HAMMOND-CARROLL

Ms. Hammond-Carroll completed her undergraduate studies at California State University, Sacramento and received a B.A. in Corrections in 1985. She received her Juris Doctorate from McGeorge School of Law, University of the Pacific in 1989. In May of 1989, she was the recipient of the Emil Gumpert Trial Advocacy Award.

Prior to joining our firm, Ms. Hammond-Carroll was an assoiate at the firm of McDonald, Saeltzer, Morris, Creeggan & Waddock and also Bolling Walter & Gawthrop.

Ms. Hammond-Carroll is AV rated by her peers in Martindale-Hubbell.

Ms. DeMera brings over twenty-seven years’ experience to the Firm, primarily as a legal assistant, working in both Plaintiff and defense firms, in Stockton and here in Sacramento. Ms. DeMera previously worked for the Firm from 1993 to 1997, then returned and assumed managerial responsibilities and has been our office manager since 2005. As office manager, Ms. DeMera works closely with the Firm’s managing partner in handling the day-to-day operation of the Firm, as well as acting as his legal assistant.
